For parents
Someone is coming to your home. Here is what that means.
Your son or daughter may already have mentioned us. If they have, you probably have questions they did not think to answer. This page is for you, not for them.
Who we are
We are Noble Hands. We are from Kolkata. We train people to help older people at home — with the day, not with the illness.
Who is coming
One person. And wherever we can manage it, the same person each time — because having to explain yourself to someone new every week is tiring, and you should not have to.
She is trained by us before she ever knocks on your door. She works for us and she answers to us. If she is late, or careless, or short with you, that is ours to fix. Not yours to put up with.
What she is there for
She is there for you. Not to supervise you, not to take charge of your house, and not to decide things on your behalf.
You still decide when you eat, what you watch, who you telephone, and whether today is a day you would rather be left alone. Say so, and she will sit quietly with her own work. That is allowed. It is not rudeness and she will not take it personally.
About the message we send your children
At the end of each day we send your son or daughter a short note: how the day went, whether you ate, whether you slept, how you seemed.
We are telling you this because you should know it is happening. Nothing goes into that note that we would not say to your face. If you want to read it, ask her and she will show you.
And if there is something you would rather we did not pass on, tell her. Most of the time we can keep it between us. If it is something about your health or your safety, we will have to tell your family — but we will tell you first that we are going to. You will not be spoken about behind your back.
What we will never do
We will never hurt you. We will never take anything of yours. We will never lie to you. And we will never leave you somewhere unsafe.
If any of that ever happens, tell your family, or telephone us yourself. We will not take our own staff’s side over yours.
There is nothing for you to do here
There is nothing on this page to fill in and nothing to agree to. Your family has made the arrangement. The only thing left to you is whether you want to open the door — and how you would like things to go once you do.
That part is yours to decide, and we will follow it.
